A big day out in Mallorca – the one route you must do

Imagine riding from one end of an island to the other taking on big climbs with miles of swooping descents on smooth roads, sun overhead, the sea glistening to your left? You can do it end to end across Mallorca here’s how –

The Ma10 road runs from the western side of Mallorca near Port Andratx up over the Tramuntana mountains down to Pollensa on the North coast. Total distance is around 130k depending on your exact route with around 2,400m of ascent. This is a big day out but one that is well worth doing.

Depending on where you are staying you might find services that will support you. There is a pre book Mallorca cycle shuttle service from Pollensa and Alcudia with a 7am departure - you'll need to book well in advance its popular. https://www.mallorcacycleshuttle.co.uk/ Many bike shops offer bike transfers down to Andratx from various points on the island.

You could also hire a car and do the route in two loops if you are staying more in the middle but there is something satisfying in beginning at the sea one end and riding to the sea the other side.

The best option is to leave Port Andratx, have coffee at Es Grau, https://www.essenciamediterrania.com/en/restaurant-es-grau/ lunch in Port Soller, drinks at the Orange juice shack Els Arcs (while you debate whether to tackle Sa Colobra) before heading down Col de Femenia to Pollensa. It’s a good 6–7 hour day.

There are several variations you can make, adding in even more climbing (2 ports near Valldemossa, Sa Colobra) or go the full length and head out to the Formentor lighthouse.

At the end you will be left with some fantastic memories to look back on having ridden one of the best bike routes in the world.

Things to plan for -

Book early for the cycle shuttles. they get booked up.

Take plenty of food and water - see the ride essentials blog.

This ride is best done early in your stay with fresh legs.

The Puig mayor climb from Soller will take you 60-90 minutes depending fitness levels.

The descent towards Pollensa down Col de Femenia is spectacular but be careful there are small goats who don't care if you are hitting 60 kph, they will run across the road.

Have a great ride.
